WATCH: Heritage Pile analysis with AHS

Our Senior Heritage Consultant and Team Lead, Julia Redshaw, provides a close-up look at the incredible heritage piles found during the development of Waterfront Place in Brisbane.

The piles were unearthed during demolition works, discovered beneath the site, ranging from six to nine metres in length. Despite the muddy conditions, the piles were salvaged and the AHS team was asked to analyse them.

Analysis of the timber piles included DNA testing to determine species of the piles. They’re thought to be between 130-150-years old, but you’ll have to watch the video to find out more!

These piles would have once served the heritage-listed Naldham House, located a stone’s throw away.

The developer of the site, Dexus, is now planning to preserve the historical piles in a public art display that will showcase Brisbane’s rich maritime trading history at Waterfront Place.

Watch as Julia explains the analysis process, findings and subsequent plans for the heritage piles. It’s all in a day’s work for the talented AHS team!
